In reply to your letter of the 26th ult. I am directed by Mr. Secretary Cardwell to acquaint you that he is willing to grant you four months' extension of your leave of absence from Hong Kong, dating from the 10th June next, and that he has caused an application to be made to the Home Office with the view of ascertaining whether ... could be attached for a further period.
